Two shortcodes. One renders a saved display; the other queries the library inline without saving anything.
Any display setting can be overridden on the page, for that page only.

Renders saved display 1. Every setting on that display can be overridden inline, and the override
applies to this one placement — the saved display is untouched.

Which means one display can serve a full gallery page, a three-across strip on the homepage, and
a compact eight-photo block in a sidebar, all from the same saved settings.
An ad-hoc gallery with no saved display behind it. Any field key becomes a filter, and
any display key sets the layout.

It defaults to 12 items, no pagination, and no visitor controls. Good for dropping a handful of
relevant photos into an article. For anything you will reuse or restyle later, save a display
instead — a shortcode you have to find and edit in six places is a shortcode you will get
wrong in one of them.
Block theme templates
Two more shortcodes exist for building custom archive and single templates in the Site Editor:
File Name: Image Galleries That Load FastFile Name: Custom Fields for Everyday SitesFile Name: Elementor vs the Block EditorFile Name: elementor-vs-the-block-editor-demo.webpFile Name: Building Post Grids Without CodeFile Name: Backups You Will Actually RestoreFile Name: Speeding Up a Slow WordPress SiteFile Name: Choosing a Theme That Grows With YouFile Name: Getting Started With the Block EditorFile Name: Looping Videos for Lobby ScreensFile Name: Adding Captions to Every VideoFile Name: Cutting Short Videos for SocialFile Name: Animated Text That Grabs AttentionFile Name: Colour Grading for a Consistent BrandFile Name: Removing Backgrounds CleanlyFile Name: Exporting Images for the WebFile Name: Batch Editing Product PhotosFile Name: Building a Type ScaleFile Name: Self-Hosting Web FontsFile Name: Line Length and ReadabilityFile Name: Pairing Fonts That Work TogetherFile Name: Accessible Contrast Made EasyFile Name: Building a Simple Colour PaletteFile Name: Using White Space With Purpose
They render the body of the archive page and of a single item page respectively, so you can
wrap them in your own header, footer and layout blocks.
Notes
Attribute values with spaces need quotes: album="Italy 2019".
Several values for one filter are separated by a comma:
people="Ana,Bea".
captions takes a comma-separated list of field keys, with
title allowed alongside them.
Both shortcodes work anywhere shortcodes work: the block editor’s shortcode block, a classic
editor, a text widget, Elementor’s shortcode widget, or a template through
do_shortcode().
Assets load only on pages that actually contain a gallery.
