Dragging a batch in
Drop files on the zone at JMGallery › Upload, or click it to open a file picker. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC are accepted, up to your server’s upload limit, which is printed on the drop zone so you do not have to guess.
Two files upload at a time. Each gets a thumbnail and a progress bar; failures are marked in place with the reason, and the rest of the queue carries on.
The shared metadata panel
Fill the panel on the right before dropping files. Whatever is in it is written to every photo in the batch. Leave blank anything that differs between them — you can fill those in afterwards, quickly, from the library table.
Two more controls sit at the bottom of the panel:
- Status — publish straight away, or save as drafts so you can describe them before they are visible.
- Use file name as title — on by default. Turn it off when your file names are camera serial numbers and an empty title is more honest.
The panel stays filled while you drop several batches, so you can change one value between batches without retyping the rest.
Images already in the Media Library
Below the queue is a picker showing every Media Library image that is not yet a gallery item. Search it, select what you want, and click Create items. The shared metadata panel applies to these too.
When the picker is empty, it says so: every image in the library is already an item.
Adding everything automatically
Settings › Uploads › Automatically add every image uploaded anywhere in WordPress turns every future upload — from the post editor, from a form plugin, from anywhere — into a gallery item.
Think before switching this on. On a site where images are uploaded for posts and pages, your gallery fills up with header images, logos and screenshots. It suits a site that is only a photo archive, and suits little else.
Adding video PRO
With Pro active, the Upload screen also takes YouTube and Vimeo links, pasted one per line, and video files you upload yourself. See Video.
If an upload fails
| The message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Exceeds the maximum upload size | Raise upload_max_filesize and
post_max_size, or resize the photo first. |
| Uploads stop partway through a large batch | Usually max_execution_time.
Drop the rest in a second batch; the finished ones are already saved. |
| HEIC files upload but show no thumbnail | Your server’s image library cannot read HEIC. Convert to JPG before uploading. |
| Memory exhausted | Very large images need memory to make thumbnails. 256M is a reasonable ask. |
