A card shows no image
- Check the display’s Image setting is Show.
- Give the post a featured image, or set No featured image? to “Use the first image in the content” or “Show a placeholder”.
- Images found in the content are remembered until the post is edited. If you have just added one, update the post once.
My single layout is not showing
- Is it switched on for that content type under Settings?
- Is the page built with Elementor, using a page template, or set as the front or blog page? Those are left to your theme unless the page picks a layout in its Content Layouts box.
- Does the post’s Layout for this page say Theme template?
- Clear your caching plugin and any server or CDN cache.
The shortcode shows “Display not found”
The display was deleted or the ID is wrong. Only logged-in editors see this message; visitors see nothing. Check the ID in JMLayouts → Displays.
Filters or page numbers do nothing
Page caches can serve the same copy for every address. Exclude URLs containing jl[ from your caching plugin, or turn on its option to skip caching for query strings.
How do I change the styling with my own CSS?
Every element has a .jmcl- class. Some useful ones:
| Selector | Element |
|---|---|
.jmcl-display | The whole display |
.jmcl-card | One card |
.jmcl-media | The image area |
.jmcl-body | The text area |
.jmcl-c1 / .jmcl-c2 | First and second line |
.jmcl-badge | The badge |
.jmcl-excerpt / .jmcl-more | Excerpt and Read more link |
.jmcl-single | A single layout |
To target one display only, prefix with its ID, e.g. #jmcl-d3-1 .jmcl-c1 { color: #6d28d9; }. Add CSS under Appearance → Customize → Additional CSS (or Elementor → Site Settings → Custom CSS).
Does it slow my site down?
No jQuery and no slider library. Pages load one small stylesheet and one small script, and only pages that actually show a display or a layout.
Is it accessible?
Cards use real headings and links, images use their alt text, sliders are fully keyboard-operable and announce their slides, and motion is reduced for visitors who ask for it.
Will it work with my theme?
Yes — classic and block themes alike. Displays fit whatever space they are placed in, and single layouts keep your theme’s header and footer.
